SUMMARY

  • Salary: £35 to 41k FTE, depending on experience.
  • Schedule: 0.6 to 1.0 FTE
  • Location: Glasgow-based
  • Contract: permanent
  • Deadline: applications considered as they are received

BACKGROUND

This role is an opportunity to take the senior technical role in an expanding built environment enterprise focused on retrofit and the climate change crisis.

When we talk about ‘retrofit’ we’re including heat demand reduction through insulation and efficient ventilation, clean heating such as heat pumps, as well as solar PV and batteries. We aspire to the best practices of consumer protection and sustainability, guided by the principles of PAS2035 and the AECB two step retrofit standard. We are now integrating considerations for climate adaptation and embodied carbon in our services. However we have to recognise the constraints of budgets, disruption and supply chain skills and availability that limit the ambitions of most households.

We’re focussed on homes, especially the ‘able to pay’ owner occupier sector. In future we expect to expand services to support lower income households and non domestic buildings. We focus on serving communities across the Glasgow City Region.

We have developed advanced expertise, especially in heat pumps and in solutions for flats. This new role will round out the team’s capability with greater experience and expertise in fabric improvements.

THE ROLE

Heading up the technical team and reporting to the CEO, the Technical Manager will be responsible for developing and delivering the household advice and support services with technical excellence, reliability, consumer protection and efficiency.

Depending on the skills and experience of the leading candidate, this role may also take responsibility for the company’s risk management processes.

In addition they will extend our network of reliable contractors.

  • Take responsibility for potential professional and health & safety risks (public and employee) associated with the advice service. Ensure that appropriate insurance is in place. Outsourced advisory support will be provided.
  • Risk management
    • Maintain a rolling evaluation of all the company’s risks, coordinating input from across the team.
    • Be the Company’s appointed ‘Competent Person’ for Health & Safety, accountable for risk assessments, safe work methods and training. Outsourced advisory support will be provided.
  • Coordinate the internal programme of training and CPD.
  • Maintain relationships with industry bodies and experts.
