THE STORY SO FAR
In 2024 we passed important milestones in our development as a climate change-driven social enterprise. You can read more about our purpose and progress in our impact report. Highlights:
- Delivering our holistic Whole Home Plan and hand holding services to dozens of households, guided by the best standards of sustainability and consumer protection. (Short film about this on YouTube).
- Providing support to expand the local network of tradespeople for green home upgrades including builders and heating engineers.
- Breaking ground towards scale retrofit, stimulated by Community Based Social Marketing.
- Completing research to make green home improvement more accessible such as heat pumps in ‘challenging’ dwelling types and upgrading tenements.
- Matured our governance structure, driven by over 300 householder member-owners.
INVESTMENT PLAN
Recent social investment is enabling us to add capacity and expertise to support expansion. Our five year plan is to:
- Grow our householder advice service 10 times over.
- Support local tradespeople to tap £millions of new, better work
- Complete critical research and innovation around i) neighbourhood scale services, ii) solutions for tenements, iii) expanding the contractor base.
- Further strengthen our community-led governance and cooperation.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
Your fit with our values and mission is as important as your skills and experience.
We’re open to part time and flexible arrangements.
Career changers. Transferable skills from other sectors are welcome.
Diverse perspectives. We want the broadest range of applicants to choose from. Don’t rule yourself out – let us make that decision.
WORKING AT LOCO HOME
We are looking for new colleagues who share our commitment to treating climate change as an emergency. Furthermore, as a cooperative we are committed to contributing to a better kind of economy that works for people and place.
The Staff Values prioritise ownership, trust, external focus, co-operation, inclusion and prudence.
As we move on from our start-up phase we will establish a wider package of benefits and support for employees. At present, employees enjoy 30 days of annual leave (including 5 public holidays taken flexibly) plus 4 additional fixed public holidays at Christmas and New Year. We also provide an Employee Assistance Programme.
“Being a small team with big ideas, Loco Home encourages pragmatism but also imagination. I’m never bored with my work, and feel fortunate to have such a strong and passionate team around me. Although sometimes it feels like you’re swimming up stream (that’s retrofit?), there is such a drive to get the job done and do right by our customers and the climate crisis that it doesn’t matter.”
